Sarah has enjoyed a career as an educator and an applied theatre artist, but her advocacy is the tie that binds it all. She strongly believes that a life well lived is one which prioritizes justice and service to others.
Sarah knows well that a variety of of advocacy strategies are necessary to effectively persuade both the public at large and decision-makers from different political backgrounds. As such, her advocacy has included:
grassroots organizing for social justice,
deploying strategic communications strategies via press interviews and written releases
being instrumental in the formation and leadership of a new labor union of graduate employees at the University of Missouri,
arts-based advocacy that reached audiences large and small,
classroom pedagogies designed to empower students and engage them in their communities,
direct lobbying of local and state legislators,
policy briefs advocating for change,
grant writing in order to fund programs that are instrumental in that change
