Sarah has enjoyed a career as an educator and an applied theatre artist, but her advocacy is the tie that binds it all. She strongly believes that a life well lived is one which prioritizes justice and service to others.

Sarah knows well that a variety of of advocacy strategies are necessary to effectively persuade both the public at large and decision-makers from different political backgrounds. As such, her advocacy has included:

• grassroots organizing for social justice,

• deploying strategic communications strategies via press interviews and written releases

• being instrumental in the formation and leadership of a new labor union of graduate employees at the University of Missouri,

• arts-based advocacy that reached audiences large and small,

• classroom pedagogies designed to empower students and engage them in their communities,

• direct lobbying of local and state legislators,

• policy briefs advocating for change,

• grant writing in order to fund programs that are instrumental in that change
